Great Yellow Gentian, tonics and flavouring
Gentian is generally a wild plant, with trumpet-shaped flowers that are usually deep blue, azure or yellow.
We use the wild Great Yellow Gentian (Gentiana Lutea) to make an aperitif (Chantelune), but some species are harvested for the manufacture of tonics and flavouring.
Gentian is used as a herbal bitter in the treatment of digestive disorders and is an ingredient of many proprietary medicines. It is also a febrifuge plant (that reduce fever).
Our Gentian based Products
Great Yellow Gentian is one of the first three medicinal and aromatic plants used in France, width many different uses (pharmaceuticals and veterinary and human medicine, beverages and spirits, cosmetics, manufacture of flavorings and extracts, food).
We pick the Great Yellow Gentian, also named Bitter Root, Bitterwort, Centiyane, and Gencian, (Gentiana lutea) in the mountains of Aveyron and Mount Aigoual.
We offer the Gentian in our Aperitif Chantelune, whose bitterness is softened by the lemon, after soaking the rhizomes during several weeks.
